Anointing Of The Sick

To request an in-home or hospital visit, please call the parish office at (909) 591-7400 and press 8.

anointing
Anointing of the sick is administered to bring spiritual and even physical strength during an illness, especially near the time of death. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. The Sacrament may be repeated if the sick person recovers after the anointing but becomes ill once again, or if, during the same illness, the person’s condition becomes more serious. In more basic terms, it is a rite that is performed to convey God’s grace to the recipient, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Holy Orders

What is Holy Orders?

Our Catholic Church ordains certain men (by the imposition of a bishop’s hands) to be leaders of liturgical prayer, examples of service and administrators – – deacons, priests, and bishops.

What difference can it make?

In the Catholic tradition people do not choose the Sacrament of Holy Orders for themselves; they are called to it by God.   If this is your calling you cannot find a happier life for yourself.  A special ordination is placed upon you, and from that moment your soul receives a re-configuration towards your ministry.

What is the next step?

Contact one of our parish priests for a conversation, or get in touch directly with the Diocesan Director of Deacons or Seminarians.  The call to the diaconate is more oriented to social service and preaching, and married people may apply.  The priesthood is more oriented towards liturgical prayer leadership and parish work … and is currently only open to single men.

What is the Sacrament of Matrimony?

Catholics believe a committed life-long love between a man and woman is so holy it comes directly from God …  and that this love should be brought to the Church so we can publicly thank God for it and ask God to bless it.  The sacrament itself is two people living as one and forming a Christian family: a “domestic Church.”  The ceremony that initiates it consists of a public exchange of vows and a blessing.

What difference can it make?

What a Catholic sacramental ceremony can add to the love of the couple is a public venue for recognizing the love and thanking God for it … and the support of the community in asking God to protect and deepen it.  Practicing Catholics have an obligation to bring their special love to God for this blessing.

What’s my next step?

At least six month before your proposed ceremony date, you should make contact with the parish office to set up an appointment with the priest.  Call the office at (909) 591-7400 to make an appointment.

What is Confirmation?

Confirmation marks the point in a Catholic’s journey at which you affirm for yourself the faith into which you have been baptized and your intention to live as a disciple and share your experience of God’s great Love with others.

What difference can it make?

Confirmation can make a real difference in a person’s life. It can give you a chance to think about your baptism and what it means to be a Catholic. Through Confirmation, your personal relationship with Christ is strengthened. You receive an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that allows you to be a missionary witness of Jesus Christ and His love in your family, neighborhood, and society.

What’s my next step?

Adults looking for Confirmation may contact Nancy Keegan, Adult Faith Formation.
Contact:  909-591-7400 Ext. 231, send email.

What is Reconciliation?
(“Penance” or “Confession”)

The sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated when a person wounded by personal sin seeks out a priest to confess his sins and receive a blessing.  The confession of sins and the absolution blessing of the Church heals the rift between that person and God.

What difference can it make?

The forgiveness offered by Christ gives you relief, direction and spiritual stamina.  It can go a long way in healing the spiritual hurts you may have done to yourself or to others.  It restores you to full communion with the Church and makes you an alive healthy member.

What’s my next step?

St. Margaret Mary parish offers the sacrament of Reconciliation every Saturday morning at 7:30 am.  It is also offered any other day, at almost any hour the priest is free … if you call ahead and make an appointment.  Additional “Communal Penance” services are offered during Advent and Lent (see the bulletin or call the parish office for dates.)

If you haven’t received your first Reconciliation yet:

Baptized adults or children who haven’t made their first Reconciliation should get in touch with Nancy Keegan.  If you’ve already made your first Reconciliation, but “it’s been years” and you’re shy or don’t know how … set a time with one of the parish priests.  We are so happy to help!

What is Holy Communion?

Holy Communion (also called Eucharist) is the Holy Meal Jesus commanded Christians to celebrate in his memory.  Catholics eat Christ’s body and drink his blood when they gather for Mass.  Active Catholics participate at Mass every Sunday.

What difference can it make?

Holy Communion (Eucharist) is the source and summit of our life in Christ.  Catholics eat the body of and blood of Christ in order to form an alive Church, and be empowered for prayer, ministry and holy living.  The abiding presence of Jesus in the Eucharist is the only convincing reason for the longevity and aliveness of the Catholic Church!

What’s my next step?

If you’ve already received your first holy communion, join us at Mass and receive our Lord again!  If you haven’t received your first holy communion:

Adults: your first Holy Communion is part of your Baptism-Confirmation-Holy Communion path towards full Church membership.  Adults seeking First Holy Communion should contact Nancy Keegan or the Faith Formation Office.  For more information about the RCIA program please click here.

Children (8 years or older):  your first Holy Communion involves a two year preparation.  Catholic parents seeking First Holy Communion for their children should also contact Nancy Keegan or the Faith Formation Office.  For more information about our First Holy Communion program please click here.

Are you asking for baptism for your child?

WE ARE SO GLAD YOU WANT TO HAVE A CHILD BAPTIZED!  When parents seek baptism for their children, they are saying their faith is something that they treasure and want to pass on.

In Baptism we are adopted in Christ’s body, the Church, and given the power to call God our Father by the Holy Spirit living inside us.

For information about what the church asks of parents and godparents — along with guidelines and a checklist — please come by the parish office for a brochure of explanation.  If you are considering signing up for baptism at our parish, remember to bring the child’s birth certificate.
