Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (Matthew 4:12-23)
Gospel Summary:
Jesus begins His public ministry after hearing that John the Baptist has been arrested. He moves to Galilee and starts proclaiming, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near." Jesus calls Simon, Andrew, James, and John to follow Him, promising that they will become "fishers of men." As He travels through Galilee, He teaches in synagogues, proclaims the good news of the kingdom, and heals the sick and afflicted.
Reflection:
In today's Gospel, Jesus calls His first disciples to leave their nets and follow Him, showing that the call to discipleship is not just about following Jesus in word, but also in action. The kingdom of heaven is near, and it’s a call to transformation—a call to live lives that reflect God’s love and justice. Just as Jesus left His hometown to begin His mission, we, too, are invited to step out of our comfort zones to live out our faith in the world. As disciples of Christ, we are called to be agents of healing, justice, and hope, sharing the Good News with those around us. Let us reflect on how we can answer Christ’s call in our own lives, following Him more closely and inviting others to do the same.
